Wow Trek was amazing! We left early Thursday morning the youth and some of us that were going met at the church for some final information and prayer and then we were off. We arrived at Martins Cove about 2:30 pm. It was kind of crazy trying to get all our stuff on the truck that was going out to camp (we didn't want to take all our stuff on the handcart). We headed over to the orientation, they ended up moving us to another building and I noticed that it was getting really dark outside, I thought oh no its going to rain. Well after we got started with the orientation it started to rain, and it dumped big time Dennie and some of the other men left to get rain gear they got soaked. It was a blessing that we were a little bit behind time cause we would have been out on the trail when the storm hit and that would not have been fun at all. We started on the trail to camp the kids were so excited it was fun to watch them. We made it to camp and got our tent up. Then the wind started to blow. We had dinner, moved our tent and got ready for bed. That night the wind BLEW so hard the tent was collapsing on us. It scared Rachel and Jared, Sara was asleep and slept through it all. The tent Jonathan was sleeping in blew down and they had to set up a new tent for them. It was a very LONG night. Friday was beautiful clear blue sky with just a breeze enough to keep the bugs away it was great weather to trek in. It was an amazing day. We went into Martins Cove, listened to some of the pioneer stories, walked along the Sweetwater River, (we didn't do the river crossing because of high water) did the women's pull, that is something hard to explain, the missionary couple meets you on the trail and tells all the men 12 years and older to come with him, while the women and children stay at the bottom. She talked to us for a little bit, we had a prayer and it was time. Wow to see the men and boys up on the hill on both sides of the trail with there hats off watching us, words can not describe the feelings. After the women's pull we trekked back to camp had dinner, a fireside and bed. It was a good night with no wind or very little, everyone slept well. Saturday we cleaned up and trekked back to the visitor center. I can't image how the pioneers felt that stayed there in the Cove, in terrible conditions, starving, watching there loved ones die, I can't write everything its just too personal for me to share right now. I took way more pictures too but how can I post over 100 pictures? We would all go do it again and hope to.
The first two pictures are of us getting started on our trek to the campground.
The next picture is Sara and a friend by the river. The Sweetwater river. Part of our group of handcarts. Martins Cove. Kim & I in the women's pull(I'm in pink). The kids and I.
